Xacuti of Goa

(80 grams)

Traditionally known as Shagoti in Konkani, this sophisticated curry is supposed to have originated in Harmal village, in the Pedne taluka of Goa-a region that borders Maharashtra state in the north. There are many variations of Xacuti all across the State, and ours is an ancestral recipe handed down generations within a family from the village of Pomburpa in North Goa. It is commonly used with chicken, mutton, lamb, seafood, and even vegetables, though the one with eggs is a clear favourite!

My love to the women. Excellent masalas. Feels that they are home-made. I tried soongta masala and xacuti. they came out so well that my non Goan hard to please husband was going for seconds and thirds! The soongta masala also goes well with fish especially chonak or red snapper. Can’t wait to try the others. Thank you, women of goem!
