Soongta Hoomun

(80 grams)

In Konkani language, Soongta means prawn; Hoomun, curry. The ubiquitous Goan prawn curry with the orange coloured gravy, subtle aroma and medium heat is made with this masala. Our’s, an ancestral recipe, comes from a Hindu family from the small town of Candolim, a place famous as the focal point of the anti-Portuguese revolts of the 18th century. The traditional dish with this masala is prawns with okra, though many dishes like prawns with radish, or prawns with drumsticks are also popular.

Soongta Hoomun

This Soongta masala is one of the best I’ve used. It has the right amount of spice and feels absolutely homemade! A big difference from the over spiced masalas you get from supermarkets. I do not use thick coconut milk in the curries, so this goes well with diluted. This masala suits me and my family whenever we crave prawn curries. Excellent! Thank you!
